Callian: a Perched Village Above Lac de Saint-Cassien
Callian is a hilltop village of 1,700 inhabitants in the upper Var, gazing down over Lac de Saint-Cassien from its medieval lanes and 11th-century château. Perched at 310 metres in the hills between Fayence and the Esterel, the village commands exceptional panoramas over the 400-hectare reservoir, oak forests and the Argens plain.
Callian forms part of the "Pays de Fayence", a cluster of perched villages — Montauroux, Tourrettes, Seillans, Fayence — celebrated for their bastides, Provençal markets and quiet charm, just 30 minutes from Cannes and Grasse.

Things to Do in Callian and the Pays de Fayence
Lac de Saint-Cassien (400 ha), 5 km from Callian, is a reservoir lake ideal for swimming, pedalo, kayaking and fishing. Its pebbled shores and wooded banks remain uncrowded outside the peak summer weeks. It is also one of the finest paragliding and hang-gliding destinations in south-east France, with launch sites on the Fayence plateau.
The village of Callian is best explored on foot: medieval lanes, fountains, Chapelle Sainte-Anne and the restored château. The markets of Fayence (Wednesday and Saturday) and Montauroux (Sunday morning) showcase local produce, crafts and olives. Grasse and its perfumeries are 20 minutes away.
